The NVGE is a Member of United European Gastroenterology - UEG.

UEG, or United European Gastroenterology, is a professional non-profit organisation combining all the leading European societies concerned with digestive diseases. Together, its member societies represent over 22,000 specialists, working across medicine, surgery, paediatrics, gastrointestinal oncology and endoscopy. This makes UEG the most comprehensive organisation of its kind in the world, and a unique platform for collaboration and the exchange of knowledge.

Apply for an International Scholarship!

 

We award 30 International Scholarships to young gastroenterologists, aged 40 and below. Awardees get free registration for UEG Week (including the Postgraduate Teaching Programme) and €1000 to cover travel expenses related to UEG Week.  The scholarships are restricted to citizens of countries with a Human Development Index (HDI) of less than 0.8 according to the latest Human Development Report.

Decide on the Spot: Which way to go with a giant gastric ulcer?

 

What would you do next in the case of a 65-year-old man with a large gastric ulcer but no significant comorbidities? Two set of biopsy samples have revealed only some ‘probably reactive atypia’ and a CT has confirmed the presence of a couple of small nodes near the ulcer that were reported as ‘likely to be reactive.’

"First European Digestive Health Summit a great success" conclude health experts

 

Yesterday, UEG and Member Societies EASL, ECCO, ESPGHAN, ESDO and the surgical block ESSAT, came together in Brussels with almost 70 top health experts, policymakers and Member State officials from all over Europe to discuss issues and advances on digestive health.

UEG President Michael Manns highlighted that it is clear that more funding for biomedical research is needed in Europe, in particular for digestive diseases, which was a recurring theme for all speakers.

Hon. Minister Christopher Fearne elaborated on the importance of further cooperation and said that a focus of the Maltese presidency of the Council of the EU will be structured cross-border cooperation in order to render cross-border healthcare more efficient.

Leading innovative, lasting and exemplary commitments in the area of colorectal cancer?

 

Fighting CRC has been a major priority for UEG during the past years.  on UEG's agenda. The Felix Burda Foundation aims to reduce the incidence and fatalities of colorectal cancer in Germany. The Foundation now accepts applications for its annual Felix Burda Award. Projects for the category “Medicine and Science” are still accepted until January 9, 2017.

The number of people dying from pancreatic cancer in Europe has risen continually for 40 years and the median survival time for someone diagnosed with the disease is only 4.6 months. Have you got up-to-date scientific results ready for publication? Late-breaking abstract submission is open until September 9, 2016. You may submit abstracts that have been presented previously this year in case new and innovative scientific findings have been achieved in the meantime. Clinical trials are also of particular interest.

Live endoscopy sessions at UEG Week 2016 

Live endoscopy sessions regularly attract many UEG Week attendees and this year won´t be different. “Live endoscopy is one of the highlights at UEG Week, and this year will be transmitted from Brussels, with endoscopies performed by top endoscopists from Belgium and other parts of Europe,” explains Scientific Committee Chair Magnus Simrén.

We have expanded our training offer for practical minded gastroenterologists. In addition to the ESGE Learning Area and the Ultrasound Learning Area, GI´s will get the opportunity to improve their hands-on skills in the new Surgical Learning Area.

“The best teachers will guide you how to optimize your technique in endoscopy, diagnostic and therapeutic ultrasound and surgery,” says Scientific Committee Chair Magnus Simrén.

This year the award goes to Tara Raftery (National Children's Research Centre, Our Lady's Children's Hospital, Dublin, Ireland), as the first author of one of the most cited papers in 2015:
